Medieval Castles Construction is strategic: walls, moats, towers, watchtowers and drawbridges were the basic fortified elements. Over time, comfort and hygiene were added, with larger windows, grand staircases and beautiful decorations. During wars, these fortresses became vulnerable to the constant progress of artillery. Many castles were therefore besieged, partially destroyed and abandoned.

Join us at Château de Saint Mesmin from 5th July to 28th August, every day for a summer visit. In the role of a builder, decorator or mercenary, this permanent sacred construction site will be shared all summer long with actors, like an encounter to be etched in stone to retrace the turbulent stories of medieval castles for:

• Building, by adding stones to the structure
• Embellishing, by adorning the stone and making it a marvel
• Destroying, by turning one stone into two blows

Also available for welcome: The grand game of riddles at the castle "In Quest of the Philosopher's Stone", to be shared with family or friends. In the manner of alchemists, you will need to find the ingredients allowing the production of the true recipe of the Elixir of "long life" to save, from imminent death, Hugues de Montfaucon, son of the castle's lord. A fun hour-long game to discover the castle while playing.
