Paleontology:
This section of the museum showcases rocks that shape today's landscape, with a particular emphasis on Oligocene limestone (dating back to -30 million years). These limestones contain remnants of animals (for example, the Bachitherium from the Tertiary) and meticulously fossilized plants, leading to their classification as geological nature reserves.
Prehistory:
The exhibition dedicated to prehistory illustrates the life of flint knappers in the Largue Valley. About 120,000 years ago, at the foot of Vachères, ancient inhabitants exploited rich flint deposits essential for creating tools and hunting and defensive weapons. During the Final Neolithic period, the extraction and shaping of flint reached remarkable technical sophistication.
